From the Meadow
By now you have all seen your child’s report card which was released on January 11th. I hope to see many of you for conferences. Because of the testing in the upper grades, I can only schedule conferences for 7 morning or 3 in the afternoon. I myself, will schedule a conference when your child is not completing grade level work on their own.
The awards ceremony is on January 23rd at 8:45 in the morning. I will notify you if your child is receiving an award.
This Friday is our class group picture. Please make sure your child is in a clean school uniform.
Our next class trip is in February to Busch Wildlife. Please check to see if you owe money or service time. If you have not completed service or paid all dues, your child will not be allowed to attend.
I would like to commend the children AND the parents who made sure their child did iReady the week before vacation, and the two weeks of vacation.
Due to testing, we must stay inside during recess. I am using this time to complete a fun project on Benjamin Franklin. This is a wonderful overlap between social studies, science and language arts.
This week we will focus on inference and prediction. The spelling words have base words ending with –ing or -ed. The words this week are: running, clapped, stopped, hopping, batted, selling, pinned, cutting, sitting, rubbed, missed, and grabbed. We will be working on pronouns.
We will continue our unit on measurement. We will be looking at measurements from inch to foot.
Science We will finish our discussion on push and pull forces. We will have a quiz on Tuesday on the vocabulary words: force, push, pull, friction, gravity, motion and speed. We will then begin our unit on magnets.
We will continue our study on immigration. We will have a quiz on Tuesday about early Colonial America.
